The Met Gala is known as the Oscars of the East Coast and fashion's biggest night of the year; so of course it is a daunting feat to have to decide on a best-dressed lady of the night. Despite how difficult it may be to choose, some stars truly did shine brighter than others.

Czech model Karolina Kurkova stood out as the supernova of the night in a dazzling rose gold Rachel Zoe design. The glittering floor length gown featured a flowing hem, high neckline, long sleeves and an open back. Although the fabric could have been overwhelming, the dress fit Kurkova like a glove. To top it all off, the blonde bombshell wore a glittering turban atop her head. Yes, it reminded us of Kate Moss in Marc Jacobs at the 2009 Met Gala; only this was amped up about 1000 watts. Bravo.

Actress Nina Dobrev was another stunner in a one-shoulder black Donna Karan gown slathered with liquid gold. Her trailing train was a dramatic move for the dramatic Met Gala red carpet and it made many heads (and cameras) turn. The Vampire Diaries actress wore her hair swept up with simple stud earrings. This made her dress the true centerpiece of the night.

Fashion-forward beauty Camilla Belle looked absolutely ravishing in a deco 1920s-inspired silver Ralph Lauren gown. The 25-year-old bared some skin with the deep V-neck of the dress. She kept with the 1920s vibe by flaunting slicked back hair and dark Bordeaux lips. Dark lips were a popular trend for the night, but they looked particularly gorgeous against Belle's bronzed skin.

Christina Ricci's pink and black Thakoon dress with a gigantic bow set upon her back might have perplexed some and scared others, but we thought the actress looked absolutely perfect. It was just the right amount of bold for the Met Gala. She paired her outfit with simple, pointed black pumps and soft, dewy makeup.

Scarlett Johansson is continuing her winning streak. First, her movie The Avengers hit $200 million in the box office; then, she hit it out of the park at the Met Gala in Dolce & Gabbana. Johansson's dress was fit for a fairytale princess -- with a sparkling bodice and tulle fishtail skirt. With her blonde hair cascading into curls and her ample curves on display, Ms. Johansson was a true show-stopper.
