Miami is about to adopt a new housing code that could extensively change the city’s landscape, emphasizing walkability and discouraging high-rises.

The proposed code allows existing homes to be rebuilt on the same property if they are diestoryed by fire or hurricane. But it otherwise bans McMansions and those fronted by garages, which critics call snouts.”

Homes can’t take up anymore than 50 percent of the lot and garages can’t be any more than 30 percent of the front of the home. The code also requires planting at least one shade in each front yard.
