Michael Strahan recently opened up about Alex Rodriguez’s stint as contributor in “Good Morning America.” The professional athlete will be working with Strahan, Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Amy Robach in the morning talk show.

While speaking with E! News at the 76th Annual Father of the Year Awards, Strahan acknowledged the fact that ABC made the right move in bringing Rodriguez into the mix. “I think it’s great. Alex and I have been friends for a long time. So when I heard the news – which was before everybody else heard the news – I wasn’t surprised by it,” he said.

Strahan added that Rodriguez being part of “Good Morning America” is also great because he is a very smart guy. “He’s interested in TV, he’s great on TV and knows what he’s talking about. It’s something he really wants to do. He works at it. Out of respect of that and knowing Alex as a person, I think he’s going to crush it,” he concluded.

According to Deadline, Rodriguez will serve as a sports contributor for “Good Morning America,” “Nightline” and “World News Tonight With David Muir.” The father of two will also be reporting on special topics such as health and personal fitness and finance. In March, the former New York Yankee signed with FOX to become their full-time analyst in the 2017 season of the World Series championships and beyond.

Meanwhile, just like Strahan, Rodriguez’s girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, couldn’t be more excited for her boyfriend’s newest ventures. On her Instagram account, Lopez announced that Rodriguez just became the first Hispanic Shark on “Shark Tank.” While speaking with EA17, Rodriguez said that he thinks this is a good sign for people just like him.

“The fact that Hispanics contribute over a trillion dollars annually to the economy is just a phenomenal feat. I think in D.C. and other business communities, we should be having really smart conversations on how to double that number,” he said.

Lopez and Rodriguez have been dating for only a few months, but they have spent time with each other’s children. Most recently, Rodriguez’s eldest daughter, Natasha, 12, attended Lopez’s “All I Have” concert in Las Vegas.
