Micron Technologies has offered Taiwan government the release of more than 2,500 patents to Taiwan Memory in exchange for financial assistance from the Taiwan government.

Micron also plans to invest in Taiwan Memory and become one of the new entity's major shareholders and was prepared to station a team of R&D staff in Taiwan to help establish the island's home-grown DRAM IP base.

Taiwans's Industrial Development Bureau Director general Chen Chao-yih said that he would welcome such action by Micron.

Taiwan's memory chip industry is failing financially and technologically. Many makers of DRAM have posted losses recently.
