Microsoft unveiled details of its latest Office suite for Mac on Thursday, saying the product will arrive in time for this years Holiday season.

Representatives at this years Macworld Expo said Microsoft the new release would offer better compatibility across platforms, better collaboration and offer a better user interface.

The latest version will include Microsoft's industry standard Outlook, replacing the Entourage shipped in previous Office versions.

Office will incorporate document-collaboration features that take advantage of Microsoft's online storage features. With Office for Mac 2011, Mac users will be able to share files and collaborate on documents with other Mac and Windows users via Microsoft's SharePoint, SkyDrive, and Office Web Apps.

You've told us that working together across platforms is a priority to you and that's why we are making Office for Mac 2011 the best, most compatible productivity suite on the Mac, Microsoft Mac Business Unit general manager Eric Wilfrid said in a statement.

Noting that roughly three quarters of their Mac users use Windows at least occasionally, Microsoft's Mac team says it's also working to make the new Office for the Mac more functionally compatible with the Windows edition.
