Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC (Release Candidate) will be made widely available next week, with testers gettign a copy today, Microsoft said in its Vista development Blog on Wednesday.

This is an almost final version of the first major update to Microsoft's operating system Windows Vista. The update will allow users to give feedback to Microsoft on which features in Windows Vista SP1 still need to be improved.

The SP1 software is now available as a download for testers on the Microsoft Connect network. On Thursday it will be available for TechNet and MSDN communities. Next week it will be available to the public in general, as it was mentioned in a statement on Vista development blog.
