August cattle was trading about 30 higher on the session after trading as much as 52 lower into the pit opening. Traders are hoping for a steady trade in the cash market this week at $121 but some traders are concerned that cash could slip due to a higher showlist. Weekly U.S. beef export sales came in at 18,000 metric tonnes, compared with the prior 4-week average of 16,400. Cumulative sales for 2012 have reached 447,800 metric tonnes, up 6.0% from last year's pace. Boxed-beef cut-out values at mid-session were up $0.66 to $197.79 which is up from $197.31 last week at this time. Select beef prices were up 1 cent to $184.78 from $187.05 last week.
