Manfred finds out the real reason why his grandmother, Xylda, convinced him to move to Midnight.

In a sneak peek from Season 1, episode 8 of NBC’s “Midnight, Texas,” Xylda (Joanne Camp) tells Manfred (François Arnaud) that she’s disappointed in him for leaving Midnight after Joe (Jason Lewis) told him last episode that he’s the man destined to lead the army that would battle the evil and seal the veil to hell in the town forever.

“They’re counting on you,” Xylda tells her grandson.

“They want me to lead? I’m leading by example, leaving that hell hole,” an upset Manfred says.

When Xylda asks how Creek (Sarah Ramos) will react to his decision to leave the town, the psychic replies that Creek doesn’t want him there, and the waitress deserves a better man than him.

Despite what happened between Manfred and Creek, Xylda continues to convince Manfred to go back. But when Manfred still refuses to listen, Xylda is left with no choice but to tell him the real reason why she convinced him to move to Midnight.

“You gotta go back. It’s your destiny,” Xylda says. “Before I died, I got a vision. I should have told you but I just kept chickening out.”

“So this whole, ‘You’ll be safe in Midnight,’ that was all a lie?” asks Manfred.

Xylda answers, “I had to get you there somehow.”

Apparently, Xylda found out from her vision that Manfred is the man in the prophecy. But will this be enough for Manfred to drive back to Midnight?

Elsewhere in the next episode, according to the synopsis for the hour, a faceless supernatural travels all the way to Midnight to usher in the advent of a demon from the veil to hell — the same demon that has been tormenting Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley). Also, Lem (Peter Mensah) and the Rev’s (Yul Vazquez) hunger increases to dangerous levels as they fight the effects of the veil opening in the town.

“Midnight, Texas” Season 1, episode 8, titled “Last Temptation of Midnight,” airs on Monday, Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch the sneak peek below:
