Things appear to be heating up between exes Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. The pair have been spotted together multiple times in the last few weeks and a new report suggests that's because they were never truly over one another in the first place.

According to Us Weekly, Cyrus, 23, has "always loved Liam." Sources told the publication that she continued to harbor feelings for her ex-fiancé long after their engagement was called off in 2013. Similarly, Hemsworth, 26, still reportedly had feelings for her. The same source told Us no other woman "has that hold on him" that Cyrus does. So, if they love one another so much, why'd they split to begin with?

"He realizes she was growing up and experimenting, he took a step back and gave her time to do that," the source explained. "Miley's always had a special place in his heart."

The report comes just over a week after the pair were said to be "back on." Cyrus and Hemsworth reunited Jan. 3 in Australia where they celebrated the holidays together. They were joined by Hemsworth's family, who welcomed Cyrus back with open arms. She reportedly felt as though they had picked up "right where they left off." Neither are believed to be certain about their romantic fate, but insiders have said Cyrus "definitely still loves him."

The couple were spotted "cuddling" and "kissing" during the trip in Australia. Cyrus and Hemsworth are said to have attended Falls Music Festival in Bryon Bay with Chris Hemsworth and other family members. The couple spent much of the day front and center at shows before hiding out in the VIP lounge together. Photos were reportedly taken of the duo during the festival, but none showed the alleged PDA that's said to have taken place.
