Miley Cyrus is not one to follow the “out with the old, in with the new” attitude. Instead, she prefers to have the best of both worlds by celebrating both the past and the present. This is what she did at the launch of her new album, titled “Younger Now.”

During the event on Friday night at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Cyrus maintained that she may have gone through some changes, but she’s still the same person. Standing beside a puppet that channeled her much younger self at the album release party, Liam Hemsworth’s girlfriend stated that the marionette was there to “represent that the same person that’s standing here right now is the same person that’s here beside me, which is Baby Miley, which is always inside me.”

While explaining the motivation behind her new album, Cyrus said that she’s no longer running away from her “life story.” She also revealed that through her new songs, fans would have access to her “private journal … of how I really, really feel and … the love that I feel in my life for the things that I feel in my life,” as quoted by People.

Apart from showcasing her new music, Cyrus also grabbed the opportunity to pay tribute to her early hits, which received a lot of cheers from the audience at the packed event. She performed her 2007 debut single, “See You Again,” and the number was made special by the presence of her childhood best friend, Lesley Patterson, among the crowd. Patterson is apparently the girl Cyrus referenced to in her first song.

The “We Can’t Stop” hitmaker managed to take a selfie with Patterson and compiled it with the photos they had through the years in a heartwarming Instagram post. In the caption, Cyrus exclaimed that she was “sooooo glad my bestie since I was a littttttle BB made it to my #spotifyfansfirst #YoungerNow release party!”

Cyrus appears to be having a throwback blast these days. On Monday night, she appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and traveled back to her “The Last Song” days by performing her hit song “The Climb” as part of her tribute to the victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting. At this summer’s iHeartRadio Festival, Cyrus also wowed the crowd when she sang “Party in the USA” once again.

Cyrus made headlines four years ago when she debuted a more mature image at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Her performance with Robin Thicke even sparked controversy and led to serious backlash, since it involved some grotesque and provocative gestures with a foam finger. When she appeared on “Saturday Night Live” following her scandalous number, Cyrus announced that she’s no longer a child star and that her Hannah Montana character was already “murdered.” But with the recent turn of events, E! News claims Cyrus has never forgotten her Disney roots.
