‘The Mindy Project’ Season 6: Mindy Gets Divorced; To Reunite With Danny?

“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will see Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) getting divorced.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the lead character will make the difficult decision to end her marriage, but this may likely not come as a complete surprise to viewers. In Season 5, Mindy proposed to Ben (Bryan Greenberg) on a subway platform with the help of her son and Ben’s daughter from a previous marriage. After tying the knot, she and Ben rode on the subway, but Mindy had a concerned look on her face while staring out the window. By the looks of it, she was contemplating on whether or not she made the right decision.

While speaking with the publication last week, Kaling said that Mindy’s whereabouts for the past 10 months will be addressed in Season 6. “We unpack that look and how that has metastasized over the course of 10 months,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mindy was previously in a relationship with Danny (Chris Messina), but their romance ended in Season 4. Last month, Kaling confirmed Messina’s return for multiple episodes. However, Kaling said that Danny and Mindy’s romantic reunion won’t be the main focus of the upcoming 10 episodes of the series.

“We aren’t super interested in tying everything up in a bow. We’re trying to avoid that, while also leaving the audience with the sense that Mindy had some growth. Happily ever after can sometimes be romantic happiness, but it can also be a feeling of contentment about your life as a professional person and as a mother,” she said (via TV Line).

As of late, it is still unclear whether or not Mindy and Danny will explore their feelings for each other since he is also married. But what is for certain is that Garret Dillahunt’s character, Jody, will be linked to a new character named Dr. Mary Hernandez (Ana Ortiz).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mary will be competing with Jody and his sister in their practice. When Jody’s patients start going to Mary instead, he will try to take her down. However, he will also develop feelings for the newcomer.

“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will premiere on Hulu on Sept. 12.
