Development work at Anglo Platinum's (Angloplat) (AMSJ.J) Paardekraal Shaft Two in South Africa was halted on Sunday after a worker died in an accident at the mine, the company said on Tuesday.

Angloplat, the world's top producer of the metal, is a unit of global miner Anglo American (AAL.L).

Spokesman Simon Tebele said the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) had launched an investigation and would decide when the shaft would reopen.

The employee was caught by a power pack...the shaft will only reopen after the DME gives the go-ahead, he said.

The shaft is part of Angloplat's expansion project and is not in operation yet. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak)
