Jay (Luke Cosgrove) fails to obey Eve’s (Alyssa Sutherland) only rule in Season 1, episode 8 of “The Mist.”

In the trailer for the episode, Shelley (Alexandra Ordolis) sees Jay and Eve’s daughter, Alex (Gus Birney) making out in what appears to be a secluded portion of the mall. Shelley tells Eve what she saw, emphasizing how fickle Alex is.

“You know what she’s doing right now?” Shelley asks Eve in the promo clip. “She’s making out with a boy she accused of raping her.”

At the end of Season 1, episode 6, Eve let Jay join their group at the mall after he agreed that he won’t touch Alex. “If I see you touching her, I will put a bullet in whatever body part you touch her with,” Eve told Jay in the episode, to which the teenager agreed. But now that Jay has broken his promise, will Eve have the guts to shoot Jay?

Also seen in the trailer is a reunion between Adrian (Russell Posner) and his father, Duncan (Shane Daly).

“Hi, dad,” Adrian says in the trailer.

But instead of giving a warm greeting, Duncan angrily looks at his son and says, “You’re a monster.”

At the end of the video, Adrian loads a shotgun, seemingly preparing to shoot his own father. But is Adrian really planning to kill Duncan? Or is it just the mist trying to mess with his head?

Elsewhere in the trailer, Nathalie (Frances Conroy) tells the remaining church parishioners that it’s time to leave the church. But before they head to their destination, Connor (Darren Pettie) helps Nathalie set the church on fire.

In the behind-the-scenes featurette for Season 1, episode 7, showrunner Christian Torpe said that the moment Nathalie came back from the mist unharmed is also the moment where everyone at the church started to realize that she could be their messiah.

“She knows something that they don’t know. She knows what’s going on,” Torpe said of Conroy’s character. “They can sort of trust her to guide them to salvation and that gives her a lot of power.”

As to why the church parishioners almost instantly saw Nathalie as their new savior, Pettie said: “People are terrified and afraid. They don’t know what to do. Then someone shows up with an answer. I think it’s easy for people to lose sight of their own rationality because they’re just so desperate to have someone take away the fear.”
