Joss (Jes Macallan) and Harry (Brett Tucker) have faced their share of obstacles throughout the run of “Mistresses,” from their strange family history to Joss nearly being convicted of murder. But according to Rina Mimoun and K.J. Steinberg, showrunners of the ABC series, things are only going to get more difficult for the former in-laws in Season 4 of the summer drama – that is, if the soap gets renewed.

“I don’t think we’re dead in the water,” Mimoun told TVLine, revealing her thoughts on whether the show would be given a green light for a fourth season. “But I don’t know that we’re not. We haven’t gotten any strong indications of a renewal ... but they haven’t told us it’s over.”

Staying positive, the dynamic duo revealed what they have in store for our favorite mistresses if the show is renewed. And if you’re a Harry/Joss shipper, boy, do we have some bad news for you ...

If Joss somehow manages to survive her deadly encounter with Wilson (Jarod Joseph), who was revealed to be Luca’s (Noam Jenkins) killer in the Season 3 finale, her fate with Harry will still be uncertain. Harry’s new Food Network gig, which involves traveling throughout Europe with celeb chef Rocco DiSpirito, could just be the straw that breaks camel’s back.

“The reality show aspect will give Harry a chance to have a real evolution from someone who doesn’t understand this invasion [of privacy] to someone who either embraces it or implodes because of it,” Steinberg said. “Instead of putting a woman in the way of Harry and Joss, we could explore what happens if the public eye gets in the way.”

Could these star-crossed lovers finally get the happily ever after they so crave in Season 4 of “Mistresses”? Well, considering the series' ratings have dwindled since its 2013 premiere, we don’t think viewers should hold their breath for a fairy tale ending -- or a renewal for that matter. Deadline reported ratings for the Season 3 premiere were 25 percent below the less-than-impressive sophomore debut in 2014.
