Detroit rocker Ted Nugent endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on his Twitter account Friday.

[A]fter a long heart&soul conversation with MittRomney today I concluded this goodman will properly represent we the people & I endorsed him, read the tweet.

Romney has not given any public response to the endorsement.

Nugent is an outspoken conservative, known for advocating gun-owner rights and for his criticism of animal-rights groups. He has made incendiary comments about prominent Democrats in the past.

Obama, he's a piece of s--t, and I told him to suck on my machine gun, Nugent said of then-presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois at a 2007 concert.

Video of the concert has been posted on YouTube. In the same video, Nugent makes remarks about then-presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, holding up an assault rifle on stage and saying, You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless b---h.

Nugent responded to and defended his earlier comments in a May 2011 interview on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight.

Anyone who wants to disarm me can drop dead, said Nugent.
