ABC president Channing Dungey released a statement following the renewal expressing his excitement over the news. “‘Modern Family’ has been the centerpiece of our comedy brand for eight seasons and we are thrilled to have it on our schedule for two more years,” he said.

“Modern Family” executive producer Steve Levitan echoed Dungey’s statement, saying, “We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously-talented writers and our incredible crew – all of whom are like family to us. And the good kind of family, not the kind that argues with you all the time.”

David and Howard Kurtzman, presidents of 20th Century Fox Television, added, “‘Modern Family’ remains one of the studio’s most prized assets and we are enormously grateful to ABC for this two year pickup. Steve and Cris are genius producers who created nothing less than a television classic, and they would be the first to tell you that their cast and crew are the best there is.”

Meanwhile, following the sitcom’s renewal, Deadline reported that Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara will all be receiving a significant increase in their paychecks. The six cast members will now be receiving $500,000 per episode instead of their usual $350,000 per episode salary from the previous season. After the new deals have been finalized, ABC will also update the contracts of the younger cast members. This includes Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons and Jeremy Maguire.

In other news, “Modern Family” Season 8 will air its final episode on Wednesday, May 17. “The Graduates” will center on Manny (Rodriguez) and Luke’s (Gould) graduation from high school. Since he’s about to embark on a new chapter in his life, Manny’s dad, Javier (Benjamin Bratt), will make an appearance in Season 8, episode 22. The two will bond over an extravagant night out to commemorate Manny’s upcoming college life. However, things will turn sour when Javier decides to leave Manny without saying goodbye, and this isn’t the first time he’ll be doing this. Luckily, Jay (O’Neill) always has Manny’s back, and he will help him pick up the pieces that his dad will leave behind.

Elsewhere, Phil (Burrell) and Claire (Bowen) and Gloria (Vergara) and Jay will struggle to control their emotions. Now that Luke and Manny are off to college, the parents become emotional over the fact that their babies are now grownups. The Dunphy-Pritchett clan is expected to be in complete attendance at Manny and Luke’s graduation.
