‘Modern Family’ Star Ariel Winter Responds To Fans After Showing Off Breast Reduction Scars At The 2016 SAG Awards

There was nothing scarring about Ariel Winter’s experience at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

After attending the annual event, which took place Jan. 30 in Los Angeles, the “Modern Family” star took to Twitter to thank everyone for supporting her decision to show off her breast reduction scars on the red carpet.

The 18-year-old actress sported a strapless, black Romona Keveza gown at the ceremony, which allowed Winter to proudly flaunt her new figure — and the marks that went along with it.

“Guys, there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all,” she explained her fashion choices on Twitter before thanking her fans for their kind remarks.

Winter underwent breast reduction surgery in June, transforming her chest size from a 32F to a 34D.

“I mainly did it for myself,” the actress explained to Entertainment Tonight, divulging that although the comments made about her body by others did bother her, she went under the knife for only one person: herself.

During an interview with Glamour magazine, Winter explained that her large breasts, which she felt grew overnight, were causing her excruciating pain.

“It was so painful. I had a lot of back problems. I really couldn’t stand up straight for a long period of time. It started to hurt so bad that I couldn’t take the pain,” Winter dished, adding that she began having problems with her spine. “I had been discussing my chest with doctors for many years, but when I finally said, ‘I’m thinking of doing this,’ he said, ‘Your back is going to thank you so much.’"

Winter continued to say that she finally feels right in her skin — scars and all — following the surgery. “This is how I was supposed to be,” she stated.
