On the upcoming economic calendar there is only one key release due out on Monday, January 12th.

The Bank of Canada will be releasing the quarterly business outlook survey at 10:30 in the morning. This is a highly respected report given that its source and timing in relation to decisions on interest rates. It can have predictive qualities regarding future economic conditions because firms that are surveyed are selected in accordance with their composition of the nations GDP. A survey is given to approximately 100 businesses in which they are asked to rate general business conditions such as sales growth, employment, inflation expectations, and credit conditions. This is important due to traders due to the fact that it is a leading indicator since businesses react quickly to changes in economic sentiment. Economists are expecting this report to come in at -0.3, which is slightly better than last quarter's -0.4 percent.
