The top stars in tennis take center stage as the the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 beginning Tuesday morning in Monaco. No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 3 Roger Federer, and No. 5 Rafael Nadal all open clay court season, while No. 2 Andy Murray already proved victorious over France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

With a six hour time difference between Monaco and the Eastern time zone (U.S), play began at roughly 5 a.m. ET. David Ferrer, ranked No. 8, has withdrawn due to an unspecified injury. Murray’s already moved on to the third round, while Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal look to advance and build their momentum in the road to the French Open.

Federer, taking to Court Rainier III, will face Spain’s Gullermo Garcia-Lopez at roughly 10:35 a.m. ET. The Swiss master, who’s working back from knee surgery and hasn’t played since the Australian open has defeated No. 38-ranked Garcia-Lopez in all three of their previous matches and has never dropped a set. However, the pair last met on Wimbledon grass in 2009.

Currently, Nadal and Djokovic aren’t scheduled to play on Tuesday and they’ll take to the court on Wednesday, when a tournament-high 20 matches take place.

The eight-time Monte Carlo champion Nadal meets No. 60 ranked and Slovenia-born Aljaz Bedene for the first time. The 26-year-old Bedene has gone 5-7 this year but defeated the Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosol 6-2 6-3 in a little over an hour in the first round.

Djokovic, too, will stare down a fresh opponent in No. 55 Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic. The 22-year-old Vesely is 6-foot-6 physical specimen, but has gone 4-8 on the tour this season. Vesely did string together three victories and made the semifinals at the Grand Prix Hassan II last week before falling to Borna Coric.
