October gasoline prices opened weaker Sunday evening, as Hurricane Irene inflicted less than expected damage to Northeast refinery operations. A number of refineries in the region have resumed normal production levels, and that has taken some of last week's weather premium out of the market this morning. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report showed non-commercial traders were net long 45,690 contracts, a decrease of 1,051. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net long position of 48,930 contracts, for a decrease of 876 on the week.
