February natural gas prices traded slightly higher during the initial morning hours as they tried to recuperate from Thursday's downdraft. The trade seemed to be disappointed by EIA data that showed a smaller than expected storage build of 138 bcf. This brought total storage down to 2,959 bcf or 5.8% above the 5 year average. Over the last four weeks natural gas storage has declined 593 bcf. Some analysts indicated that the latest weather maps out to January 23rd showed some of the cold Midwestern temperatures moving into the Northeastern region, which has the potential to support near term pricing.
