October natural gas traded lower during the initial morning hours, as it edged down toward last week's contract low of $3.840. It is possible that the temperature outlook for the September 3rd - 7th time period has moderated and has reduced a/c demand for natural gas. Additionally, this morning's data from the National Hurricane Center presented little near term storm threats in the Atlantic this morning. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of August 23rd showed non-commercial traders were net short 175,823 contracts, an increase of 1,157. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 138,816 contracts, down 4,271.
