July natural gas prices traded lower Sunday evening but appeared to stabilize in a tight overnight range. Some traders were encouraged by Friday's price action that seemed to catch a lift from Baker Hughes drilling rig count data that fell to a new 13 year low. Longer range weather maps continue to show above normal temperatures across much of the Northeastern region, and that should be a positive for air-conditioning demand for natural gas. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of June 5th showed non-commercial traders were net short 98,352 contracts, a decrease of 3,704. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 77,887 contracts, for a slight increase of 780 during the report week.
