September natural gas prices turned lower during the overnight and initial morning hours but were able to turn positive ahead of the New York opening. Some traders were concerned over moderating US weather forecasts, seen as a force reducing air-conditioning demand for natural gas. However, one positive factor for the natural gas market could be the results of the latest Baker Hughes rig count data that showed another decline into a new 13 year low of 864. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of August 14th showed non-commercial traders were net short 68,501 contracts, a decrease of 6,762. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 29,433 contracts, for a decrease of 7,512 during the report week.
