September natural gas prices slipped to their lowest level since July 8th during the early morning hours. Some traders indicated that the natural gas market has largely shrugged off the threat of Tropical Storm Don disrupting Gulf of Mexico operations. Reports from the US Ocean Energy Management indicated that 2.8% of US natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico was shut down in response to Tropical Storm Don. Meanwhile, natural gas prices came under significant pressure following yesterday's EIA storage report that showed a slightly larger than expected injection of 43 bcf. This brought total storage to 2,714 bcf or 2.3% below the 5 year average. Over the last four weeks natural gas storage has increased 282 bcf.
