October natural gas prices trended lower during the overnight and initial morning hours, falling to their lowest level since August 30th. Prices appeared to stabilize overnight weakness ahead of the US opening. The natural gas market has come under increasing pressure in recent sessions over moderating weather forecasts, which is expected to reduce demand for natural gas. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of September 4th showed non-commercial traders were net short 91,311 contracts, an increase of 10,148. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 63,508 contracts, an increase of 16,239 in their net short positioning.
