October natural gas prices grinded lower during the initial morning hours and fell to a new four day low in the process. The market experienced some profit-taking selling pressure during Friday's session, and that sent prices back below the $3.00 level. Some traders were concerned over US weather forecasts that continue to show moderating temperatures and not expected to offer any significant boost to natural gas demand. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of September 11th showed non-commercial traders were net short 103,367 contracts, an increase of 12,056. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 71,842 contracts, for an increase of 8,334 in their net short positioning.
