The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently released 2011 nationwide crime statistics in its annual Uniform Crime Report. The F.B.I. compiled data from almost 17,000 law enforcement agencies from around the nation for its extensive study.
Stagnant economies, large disparities in wealth, and racial divides contribute to the high crime rates that many of the following cities must overcome.
Here is a list of the five most dangerous cities in the U.S., ranked by the Atlantic magazine in instances of violent crime per capita. Crime in the U.S. has been on the decline since the 1990s, yet the statistics from these cities are staggering.
