Tech aficionados have been waiting to get their hands on the latest Motorola DROID BIONIC. The newest version of Motorola's popular DROID, the BIONIC, will debut with Verizon Wireless sometime this summer.

It seems that with more technological advancements, somehow patience has been lost. The long-awaited iPhone 5 has created speculative dates from many news sources and bloggers. The newly hyped Mac OS X Lion has also had its share of speculation, rumors and theories. The revolutionary Blackberry Bold is also keeping its release date a mystery.

And now, with the DROID Bionic, the situation is the same. The Bionic, complete with 4G (LTE) and a dual-core processor, has people sitting on the edge of their seats. Like children on the night before Christmas, the release date tease has adults acting like it's the Christmas Eve that won't end.

Earlier this month the FCC approved Motorola's DROID BIONIC, giving DROID fans confidence that the phone would soon be in their grip. Then, Verizon created a special sign-up page, intended for those eager DROID lovers who want the latest information on the DROID.

Verizon's vague DROID BIONIC page simply states Coming This Summer. Below contains a box where you can sign up via e-mail. The text reads: Sign up to receive details and launch dates so you can be one of the first to get the DROID BIONIC by Motorola on Verizon.

Last week, a leaked Verizon and Google DROID Best Buy ad began circulating like wildfire across the Internet. The ad read, Control It And You Control Everything. 4G LTE. Coming Soon.

Although Motorola had stated at the International Consumer Electronics Show, that the BIONIC would be released during their second quarter, which ended in June, there is still no DROID Bionic.

By the end of April, Motorola made an official announcement stating that they were incorporating several enhancements to make this (the BIONIC) an even better consumer experience -- and that the phone would be delayed to the third quarter. This created a whirlwind of speculation around the release date.

The third quarter runs from July to September; therefore, it can be deduced that the phone will be here in the coming month and a half. But still, consumers want to know the exact date.

Internet rumors have put the release date to a late-July through August timeframe. This would put the BIONIC ahead of the speculative release date for the iPhone 5 and the Blackberry Bold, both expected in September. However, its true rivals, HTC, Samsung and LG already have their latest series out, creating pressure for Motorola to release the DROID, and in the meantime they need to build hype.

Motorola Mobility delivered the original DROID in 2009. The phone has since become one of the most successful consumer mobile devices, and has garnered it awards. Motorola took the DROID to another level with the DROID X, DROID 2 Global, and the DROID PRO. The DROID BIONIC is expected to contain expanded features, functionality and an improved form factor. This is as far as the official Motorola Web site will allude to, regarding the BIONIC.

Internet rumors have speculated that the BIONIC will feature:

  • 4.3-inch - 4.5-inch qHD display
  • Improved Blur UI
  • 3D features support
  • 2 cameras (front and back) with an 8MP camera (on the back) and HD 1080p video resolution.
  • Tegra 2 processor, but may come with the OMAP4 dual core CPU.
