Motorola Inc said on Monday a former executive Daniel Moloney will return to the company as president of its Mobility operations just months after he left to run manufacturer Technitrol Inc.

Motorola announced in February that Moloney was leaving to become Technitrol Chief Executive.

Beginning September 1 Moloney will report to Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha who will be CEO of Motorola Mobility, which will include the television set-top box business, as well as mobile phones when it is spun off from the rest of company next year.

He will take charge of the set-top box part of the business, as well as supply chain, information technology and government affairs at Motorola Mobility. Moloney will also help launch it as a publicly traded company.

Motorola said Moloney was returning because the new job offered more responsibilities than his previous role as head of Motorola's Home and Networks Mobility unit.

This unit had included its set-top box business and its network equipment business, which is now being sold to Nokia Siemens, a venture of Nokia Corp and Siemens AG.

Technitrol, a manufacturer of electronics components, said Moloney would remain on its board.

Motorola shares closed 13 cents higher at $7.62.
