MTV's 'Are You The One' Season 3 Premiere Date Announced; Show Gets Shocking New Plot Twist

MTV's popular dating competition series "Are You the One" has been renewed for a third season, and the premiere is just around the corner! The series, which first aired in March 2014, brings together a group of 10 single males and 10 single females to nix bad dating tendencies while searching for their perfect match in the house -- oh, there's also $1 million at stake. The network has announced "AYTO's" official Season 3 premiere date as well as an insane new twist.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will return Thursday, Sept. 24, at 11 p.m. EDT. In the weeks that follow, "AYTO" will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT. The site reports that MTV has decided to add a new challenge to Season 3. Each week that the group fails to find at least one perfect match among them, they will lose $250,000. This means, essentially, that if the 20 contestants go four episodes without any matches, they will lose their chance at the million-dollar jackpot.

In addition to announcing the premiere date and plot change, MTV has released the name, age and hometown of each twenty-something appearing on Season 3. According to EW this group, which features a girl who swims with sharks, a diving instructor and a male competitor who prides himself on "organizing threesomes through Tinder," may just be the most interesting to date.

As you may recall, MTV also introduced a plot twist in Season 2. The show added an extra contestant to the game, meaning there was one person in the house who would neither find love nor bring home the prize money. The show ended with the cast members finding their 10 perfect matches, meaning the remaining competitors walked away with a shared $1 million.
