Egyptian laborers who toil in the popular resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh believe that their president Hosni Mubarak is hiding there after having escaped angry rioters in the capital Cairo.

According to the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Mubarak visits here frequently and has often entertained foreign dignitaries at its lavish hotels and golf clubs.

“The crowds will not get him in Sharm because the roads all the way from Cairo are heavily guarded by roadblocks,” a local resident told the paper. “There are not enough people here to cause him harm, and too many police,”

Other residents have told the paper that they have seen the beleaguered President here.
