Naples witnessed a thriller as Napoli secured a 2-1 win over Manchester City, leaving the English side on the brink of elimination from the Uefa Champions League.

Edison Cavani's brace sandwiched Mario Balotelli's equalizer, meaning City will now hope Villarreal can beat Napoli in a fortnight while they themselves get the better of Bayern Munich.

It was a thriller, with both teams dominating at different periods in the game.

Cavani opened the scoring on 17 minutes, when he got to the end of Ezequiel Lavezzi's set-piece to head past Joe Hart. However, City pressed and equalized, 32 minutes later, when Mario Balotelli got to the end of a rebound to tap in.

For all their hard work, City were undone again, minutes into the second half. Andrea Dossena got behind the defence and crossed for Cavani to sidefoot in his second.

As the game progressed, both sides had numerous opportunities to score. However, Napoli hung on to go second in the group and secure a vital win.
