“Narcos“ Season 3 will pick up after Pablo Escobar’s (Wagner Moura) death. According to the spoilers for the Netflix show, the new season will focus on cocaine and corruption.

“Narcos” Season 3 will center on the successor of the Colombian kingpin, Pablo, in the drug trade. It will highlight the rising Cali Cartel and will look deeper into the systemic effects of cocaine and corruption in Colombia, executive producer Eric Newman told The Hollywood Reporter.

Newman explained that Cali was part of the system. In fact, the cartel enjoyed a more powerful protection than Pablo’s. Pablo was protected by the people who loved him. Meanwhile, Cali is protected by a political and economic system.

There are four Cali godfathers who will have major roles in Season 3. These include the brothers Gilberto (Damian Alcaraz) and Miguel (Francisco Denis), along with Pacho Herrera (Albert Ammann). All were featured in the previous season. A new name, “Chepe,” will be introduced in the upcoming seasons.

“Narcos” Season 2 shocked viewers when it killed off Pablo. A number of viewers thought that the series will never be the same without the Colombian kingpin. However, in the trailer for the upcoming season, the clip showed the words, “The blow must go on,” suggesting that the plot will continue without him.

“Narcos” Season 3 will exploit the ever-present world of kingpins and cocaine. According to the show’s EP, they do not plan on making a documentary of the life of only one Colombian drug lord. “From the beginning when we decided to call the show ‘Narcos’ and not Pablo Escobar, I had always had in mind to tell the continuing story of cocaine,” Newman explained. “Jose [Padilha], Doug [Miro], Carlo [Bernard] and I wanted to tell a story about the drug war and never just about one person or organization. We had always planned on continuing on.”

Meanwhile, Boyd Holbrook, who played the role of Steve Murphy, a DEA agent tasked to bring Pablo down, teased that “Narcos” Season 3 will be exciting. “So you see the evolution of people like El Chapo, stuff like that. It should be a really exciting season,” he told Harpers Bazaar.
