A second straight pole victory has Denny Hamlin flying high during his comeback, but whether he can turn that success into a win at the FedEx 400 at Dover International Speedway remains to be seen.

Representing Joe Gibbs Racing, Hamlin just beat out Martin Truex Jr. with a 157.978 mph lap for the top slot in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race. It’s the third pole for Hamlin this season, but he hasn’t been able to convert his position into a victory.

Hamlin also won the pole last week in Charlotte, and finished fourth, while coming in 25th in California after starting first. He currently sits 24th in the Cup standings.

Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, and Ryan Newman complete the top five of the starting lineup at Dover, but all competitors will have to find a way to box out seven-time winner Jimmie Johnson.

Johnson can extend his 25 point lead in the standings over Carl Edwards with another victory. The 37-year-old has won at Dover twice in the last four years, including last year when he led 289 of the 400 laps.

Johnson will start from the No. 24 slot right behind Tony Stewart and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Jamie McMurray fill out the top 10 as the Chase for the Cup heats up in the second half of the season.

The race starts at 1 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast by FOX.
