The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 69.14 points, or 0.63 percent, to 11,080.04. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 0.49 points, or 0.04 percent, to 1,151.55. But the Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> dropped 30.55 points, or 1.23 percent, to 2,461.03.
