The Nasdaq advanced 1 percent on Wednesday as the market edged higher. Investors were relieved the Federal Reserve provided no further reason to sell stocks in its statement, while Apple boosted tech shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 45.65 points, or 0.45 percent, at 10,239.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 5.17 points, or 0.47 percent, at 1,097.34. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 17.12 points, or 0.78 percent, at 2,220.85.
