Nebraska Cornhuskers guard Mike Peltz didn’t play a single minute on Senior Night, but he still managed to steal the show.

Before Sunday night’s game against the Wisconsin Badgers, Peltz and his fellow graduating Cornhuskers took to the court to pump up the crowd for Senior Night. The backup guard instructed the crowd that they weren’t allowed to sit down at any point during the game—before announcing that he intended to break his own rule.

“We all know the rules for tonight, and there’s no sitting or kneeling of any kind,” Peltz said, drawing cheers from the hometown crowd. “But I gotta make an exception real quick.”

Peltz walked over to his girlfriend, dropped to a knee and pulled out an engagement ring. “Shelby Marie, will you marry me?” he said. His girlfriend immediately accepted the marriage proposal, causing the crowd to erupt in applause and chants of “She said yes.”

The senior’s surprise marriage proposal must have had a positive effect on the Cornhuskers’ on-court performance. Nebraska pulled off a 77-68 upset victory over No. 9-ranked Wisconsin and took one step closer to a berth in the NCAA tournament.
