A recent Netflix app update makes streaming movies possible on smartphones that run Android 2.2 (Froyo) or Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Android Market announced the update to the application on Friday, stating that the app is available for free downloand and stream can begin instantly, as part of Netflix customers' unlimited membership.

With the now compatible Netflix app, consumers can watch TV shows and movies as often as they want; resume watching where they left off on either their TV or computer; and browse movies and manage their instant Queue right from their smartphone or tablet.

Netflix launched an Android application in May, but it only supported the Samsung Nexus S and five additional HTC phones running Froyo.
