Netflix just announced the official premiere date for Spike Lee’s upcoming series, “She’s Gotta Have It.”

According to TV Line, all 10 episodes will be available for streaming starting Nov. 23. All installments were directed by Lee, and the cast includes DeWanda Wise, Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent and Anthony Ramos. Wise will play the role of Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist struggling to divide her time between her job, friends and her three lovers.

Anthony will play the role of Greer Childs, a cultured model, while Bent takes on the role of Jamie Overstreet, an investment banker. On the other hand, Ramos will play Mark Blackmon, the original sneaker head. Support cast members for “She’s Gotta Have It” include Chyna Layne, Ilfenesh Hadeara, Margot Bingham, Sydney Morton and Joie Lee.

In an interview with Deadline, Lee revealed that it was his wife, Tonya Lee, who had a vision to turn the original “She’s Gotta Have It” into a series. However, the 10 episodes of the Netflix series will not be exactly like the 1986 film. “Tonya saw it plain as day. I didn’t,” he said.

The director added that the way rape was depicted in the original film will not be similar to the upcoming series. “It made light of rape, and that’s the one thing I would take back. I was immature and I hate that I did not view rape as the vile act that it is. There will be nothing like that in ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ the TV show,” he confirmed.

Lee also responded to the backlash he received for signing up on Kickstarter to help finance the series. According to the director, he did a similar thing for the movie, but made use of a different medium since there was still no internet at the time. “So my technology was, calling people on the phone. I was writing postcards, actually putting pen to paper. Who does that now? That’s how I raised the money. I’ve been doing that since 1985, way before anyone thought of Kickstarter. ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ cost $175,000 and went on to make $7.5 or $8 million at the box office,” he said.
