Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) took a big gamble in 2013 with high-budget original series like “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black,” and it paid off.

“House of Cards” became the first TV series to win a primetime Emmy Award without ever broadcasting on a network or cable channel. The hit series won three Emmys for “Outstanding Casting in a Drama Series,” “Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series,” and “Outstanding Director.” In total, “House of Cards” was nominated for nine Emmy Awards.

“Orange is the New Black,” became Netflix’s most-watched original series and generated a ton of positive buzz on social media.

Both series helped Netflix add 1.29 million more members in the U.S. and 1.44 million new members internationally in the third quarter, bringing in a net income of $32 million.

To build on that success, Netflix is doubling its investment in original content, and has a whole bunch of new programs coming out this year. Here’s what you can look forward to on Netflix in 2014.
