New Amsterdam Market, the favorite market of many New Yorkers, is coming back! If you consider yourself a gourmet, check this out.

Kicking off the 2011 season with Floralia on May 1, New Amsterdam Market will be officially back in business beginning Sunday, June 5, 2011.

The market will be held every Sunday from 11am to 4pm at the old Fulton Fish Market, which is located on South Street and Beekman Street in Lower Manhattan. It is held outdoors, under cover, and meets rain or shine.

At the South Street Seaport you can encounter a great mix of meat, cheese, vegetable, and pre-made foods and more. The friendly vendors are composed of outstanding farmers, producers, distributors, purveyors, cooks, chefs, caterers and other advocates and supporters of regional food systems, responsible sourcing, and the dynamic culture of the public market.

Vendors change weekly, so make sure to consult the calendar page on the Market's official website.

According to the website, New Amsterdam Market will follow a local tradition, set by the market halls of old New York. Reaching their last zenith in the early 19th Century, emporia such as Fulton Market, Washington Market and Jefferson Market were lauded for the bounty and quality of their offerings, which attracted visitors from the entire city and far abroad.
