Game of Thrones
“Game of Thrones” characters Varys (Conleth Hill) and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) will return in Season 6, which will premiere on HBO on April 24. HBO

While other “Game of Thrones” trailers for the upcoming Season 6 have relied on cool indie music or simple creepy remembrances of the copious dead, the latest 30-second tease — knowing, perhaps, that you're going to watch no matter what at this point — goes back to basics: foreboding voice-overs that check in with our main players.

(Note the prominent "Or stream it on HBO Now" promo at the very end. HBO CEO Richard Plepler doesn't care whether you watch or stream "Thrones" — just as long as you pay for it.)

We've already seen a glimpse of blind Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), as well as Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) walking with her Dothraki captors (Drogon the dragon winging overhead), and we've even experienced that "Whoa" moment when a weirdly ambulatory Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) seeing the Night's King, who here reaches out a deadly arm to grab the boy.

Not present in this newest batch of footage: Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Melisandre (Carice van Houten), Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) and at least a dozen other characters you've probably forgotten.

But this is merely a teaser, designed to keep the premiere date — April 24 — fresh in your mind. Extra milliseconds of Tyrion and Arya and her teacher Jaqen H'ghar and are just there to further whet your appetite and provide a few more frames of new footage to analyze to death.

And now that all viewers are on an equal footing, since author George R.R. Martin's sixth tome has not yet reached the printer, the analysis is reaching fever pitch. Was that a giant crashing through Castle Black? How far can the High Sparrow really push Cersei? Was Brienne about to kill Theon?

We'll find out in four weeks.
