Gorilla Glass Notebook
Corning has developed a version of Gorilla Glass for touchscreen notebooks. Corning, Inc.

Corning Inc. (NYSE:GLW), makers of Gorilla Glass, announced a new product for touchscreen notebook computers. Corning says its Gorilla Glass NBT screens are 8 to 10 times more scratch-resistant than the soda lime glass currently found on devices like the Acer Aspire line.

Gorilla Glass is found on most high-end smartphones like the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One due to its scratch- and shatter-resistant properties. Dell announced that it would be including Gorilla Glass NBT in new devices launching in the fall.

Corning said that Gorilla Glass NBT is resistant to scratches from use and cleaning and offers less visibility of scratches that do appear. Corning announced Gorilla Glass NBT in a press release yesterday, stating the coating will provide greater crack resistance if a laptop’s lid is accidentally closed on top of something.

Corning announced today second-quarter financial results. Its Display Technologies division continues to struggle with the declining price of LCD glass due to poor demand for consumer television sets, but the company beat earnings estimates due to higher sales and lower expenses during the quarter.
