'Man Of Steel'
"Man of Steel" will be released on June 14. Warner Brothers

“Man of Steel” is shaping up to be one of the most exciting blockbuster movies of the summer, but it’s still a few days away from hitting theaters on June 14. If you’re excited about the upcoming Superman reboot but can’t wait, whet your appetite for Kryptonian-on-Kryptonian violence with this amazing 13-minute behind-the-scenes trailer.

In the behind-the-scenes “Man of Steel” trailer, director Zach Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer explain that their approach for “Man of Steel” is to create a newer, more realistic Superman that could inhabit our world. From the look of it, the film may have succeeded at not only reinventing Superman for a modern audience, but also at creating the first truly enjoyable Superman film since “Superman II” 33 years ago.

“Our approach was not a comic book Superman,” Goyer says in the trailer. “It was just to do a more realistic Superman. A Superman that exists in the real world.”

Goyer has previously worked with “Man of Steel” producer Christopher Nolan on his Batman trilogy, contributing the script for “Batman Begins” and story work for “The Dark Knight.” But despite his involvement with the grim and gritty Batman trilogy, Goyer says “The Man of Steel” will still retain Superman’s signature optimism.

“Relatable and realistic doesn’t necessarily mean dark. I think it would be inappropriate for us to approach a Superman film as if we were doing ‘The Dark Knight,’” Goyer told Total Film. “The Batman films are a lot more nihilistic; Superman has always been a story about hope.”
