On Friday, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week partner IMG announced that it teamed up with online video platform Rightster to host live stream video of the action on the runway at Lincoln Center for the Fall 2013 season as well as upload on-demand video afterward. Fashion Week will be held in New York beginning on Thursday until Feb. 14.
Shows from Michael Kors, to Lacoste, to Carolina Herrera, to Vera Wang and 50 others will be available to watch from the comfort of your own home, at work or on the go.
The move to host live streams of the show comes as designers look to gain more attention directly from the consumers, as well as other editors and bloggers who miss out on the runway shows. And it has worked already, according to IMG, with a 165 percent increase in viewership last year to “an unprecedented audience size worldwide.”
"At IMG Fashion, we constantly look to provide innovative solutions for designers to connect with buyers, press and consumers around the globe,” Peter Levy SVP and Managing Director IMG Fashion Worldwide Events and Properties said in a statement. “Our extended partnership with Rightster will allow us to bring the rich content live from the runways to fans and media who support the event, opening the doors for designers worldwide.”
Many shows will be available on live stream through newyork.mbfashionweek.com and facebook.com/mbfashionweek as well as others through livestream.com. Even more shows will be broadcast through designers’ and press agency pages like KCD, who previously did not share shows with the general public.
