The New York Knicks landed a player that is going to help them a lot in point guard Jason Kidd, according to NBA MVP LeBron James.

It can't hurt them,'' James told the New York Post about the Knicks adding Kidd. J-Kidd is a champion. He's going to be a Hall of Famer when he decides to hang it up. He's going to help them a lot. His mind, the reason he's been able to play so long is because he can think the game better than a lot of guys who are faster than him and have more athleticism.

He's great for the game. I love him. I always looked up to him. He's going to be really good for that team.''

James played alongside Kidd in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which resulted in the U.S. winning a gold medal. Kidd was known for playing the role of the elder veteran to the young All-Stars like James, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul.

The Knicks won't be able to officially announce their acquisition of Jason Kidd until July 11, but are expected to sign him to a three-year, $9 million deal. The deal could end up being a sign-and-trade deal with the Dallas Mavericks depending on whether the Knicks can acquire center Marcus Camby.

Kidd ultimately chose the Knicks over the Mavericks because of a better roster and a chance to mentor Jeremy Lin. Lin, who agreed to a four-year, $28.5 million deal with the Rockets, is expected to return to the Knicks. Kidd will likely play 20-25 minutes per game, sometimes alongside Lin, and provide leadership to a team that is devoid of it besides center Tyson Chandler.

He'll give you 24 good minutes and he'll give you anything you want,'' Chris Paul told the Post. He can play more minutes. And J-Kidd is going to try to play more minutes because he's that competitive. He's going to be just fine. That's J-Kidd we're talking about.''
