The New York Times will begin charging people to read some of the content on its website starting March 28 in the United States, the company's chairman and publisher announced on Thursday.

New York Times Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. said the website had started charging readers in Canada on Thursday.

Anyone will be able to access 20 articles for free each month before they have to pay.
