The New York Yankees were the first club in the majors to reach 70 wins this season. The Boston Red Sox are three games below .500.

The arch rivals will square off Friday at Yankee Stadium at 7:05pm EST and you can watch it live here.

Earlier this week, Boston squashed a Yahoo Sports story that reported players requested first-year manager Bobby Valentine's firing at a state-of-the-Sox type meeting. The organization has denied such accusations up and down since.

On the flip side, the Yanks have won seven of their last ten outings, including two of three from the Texas Rangers. New York currently holds a six-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for sole possession of first place in the A.L. East.

Right-hander Phil Hughes takes to the mound for the Bombers after losing his last two starts. While he's posted an 11-10 record this season, Hughes is 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last five starts at home.

Boston's Franklin Morales faces the Yanks again after a brutal outing on July 7, when the lefty gave up six earned in 3 1/3 innings for a 6-1 loss. Still, over his last 15 outings Morales has a 2.94 ERA and 57 strikeouts, and opponents have a .179 average against him.

Former Boston MVP Dustin Pedroia has been on fire in August and carries an 11-game hitting streak into tonights game, with a .379 average in 15 games this month.
