In New Zealand, the total guest nights in short-term commercial accommodations fell 8% year-on-year in February, the Statistics New Zealand said Thursday. Guest nights by international tourists fell 13%, while those by domestic tourists declined 2%.

In February, of the different types of accommodation facilities available, guest nights decreased the most in hotels and motels. Moreover, all 12 regions in New Zealand showed fewer guest nights, with Otago, Auckland, and Bay of Plenty showing the largest decreases.

The statistical office said the occupancy rates in the accommodation facilities, excluding caravan parks and camping grounds stood at 62%, the lowest for a February month in a decade.
